Maasvlakte Light, completed in 1974 in Rotterdam's industrial Maasvlakte district, is a 62-meter concrete lighthouse and radar tower marking the entrance to the Nieuwe Waterweg behind the sea dike protecting Europoort. First lit on September 19, 1974, with an optical lens transferred from the decommissioned Hoek van Holland High Light, the tower stood as the second-tallest concrete lighthouse in the world and the tallest in the Netherlands. The light was deactivated on October 31, 2008, as changing harbour conditions reduced its navigational necessity, though its radar antenna remains operational. The 295-step tower, though accessible by foot, is closed to public entry.
