Lange Jaap, an active lighthouse near Fort Kijkduin in Huisduinen, Den Helder, stands 63.45 metres tall and ranks among the world's tallest traditional lighthouses. Designed by Quirinus Harder and completed in 1878, it is constructed of cast iron and held the distinction of being the Netherlands' tallest lighthouse for nearly a century until the Maasvlakte Light was built in 1974. The tower remains the world's tallest non-skeletal cast-iron lighthouse. Originally open to visitors, the tower has been closed to the public since 1998 due to safety concerns, though the lighthouse continues to operate. The structure is designated a Rijksmonument.
