Built in 1885, the Den Oever Lighthouse is a cast iron tower standing 16 meters tall on the Wadden Sea in the Netherlands. Originally positioned at the western end of the former island of Wieringen, it functioned as the rear light of a pair of leading lights guiding ships through treacherous waters. When the Afsluitdijk was completed in 1930, the lighthouse was relocated to the eastern end of Wieringen at Den Oever. Its beam, initially directed toward the Wadden Sea, was reoriented southward in 1932 to face the newly formed IJsselmeer. The tower operated until its deactivation in 2009 and is now recognized as a Rijksmonument, a protected heritage structure in the Netherlands.
