The Nimoy Theater, located in Westwood, Los Angeles, is a streamline moderne and art deco movie palace designed by Arthur W. Hawes (with Joseph Musil credited as co-architect) and completed in 1940. Originally built as a 500-seat venue for live performances, it opened as the UCLAN Theatre in 1941 before converting to newsreel cinema during World War II. Over the decades it operated under various names—Crest, Majestic Crest, Bigfoot Crest, and Metro Theatre—reflecting successive ownership changes. Designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, the theater underwent extensive renovation by UCLA, which acquired it in 2018, and reopened in September 2023 under its current name honoring actor Leonard Nimoy.
