The former Manchester Law Library, erected on Kennedy Street in 1884–85, is a Grade II* listed building in the Venetian Gothic style designed by architect Thomas Hartas. Built to house the Manchester Law Society's library and meeting rooms, it became home to what was England's oldest provincial law library until the society's relocation to Booth Street in 2015. Hartas, a little-known architect for whom this appears to have been his only major commission, created a distinctive Gothic Revival structure that has since been adapted for private commercial and office use.
