The Manchester Jewish Museum occupies a Grade II* listed building on Cheetham Hill Road that served as a synagogue from 1874 to 1984. Originally built in the Moorish Revival style to house the Congregation of Spanish & Portuguese Jews (the Sha'are Tephillah Synagogue), the structure reflects the architectural preferences of Victorian Jewish communities in northern England. The congregation, which follows the Sephardic rite, relocated to premises on Moor Lane in Kersal, Salford, allowing the historic building to be repurposed as a museum dedicated to Jewish history and heritage.
