Built in 1924 at 701 Main Street in Peoria, Illinois, the Marquette Apartments is a historic Chicago School apartment building designed by local architects Hewitt & Emerson. Erected to accommodate the growing number of downtown workers seeking housing near their jobs, the structure exemplifies a more modern approach than the firm's typical classically inspired work. Its three-story mixed-use design features commercial space on the ground floor with residential apartments above, distinguished by internal corridors and common entrances—a sophisticated arrangement that set it apart from smaller mixed-use buildings of its era. The Marquette remains the only building of its type surviving in downtown Peoria and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
