The Metz Citadel is a 16th-century artillery fortification erected in Metz, France between 1556 and 1564, following the city's incorporation into French territory in 1552. Designed by Rocco Guerrini, it served a dual purpose: to defend the city while consolidating French control over it. The citadel subsequently became part of extended fortification networks developed by Vauban and his successors. Though substantially dismantled during the 19th century, remnants of the structure survive today alongside civic buildings and green spaces at its original site.
