Minneapolis City Hall and Hennepin County Courthouse, completed in 1888 by architects Long and Kees, serves as the primary seat of municipal government for both the city and county. Designed in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, this substantial structure shares architectural kinship with similarly styled city halls in Cincinnati and Toronto. The building accommodates a joint governance arrangement, with sixty percent of its space occupied by the city and forty percent by Hennepin County, under management by the Municipal Building Commission. Since its completion, the structure has remained dedicated to local government operations. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
