Moody Towers are twin 18-story modern residence halls on the University of Houston campus in Houston, Texas, housing 1,100 students and the campus's largest dining facility. Named for philanthropists William Lewis Moody, Jr. and Libbie Shearn Moody of Galveston, the towers stand in the Wheeler District. The buildings gained national attention in 1972 when police arrested Albert J. Russell, Jr., a non-student who had trespassed on campus with a loaded M14 rifle and .22 Long Rifle, apparently intending to use the rooftop as a vantage point for a mass shooting—an incident that occurred near the sixth anniversary of the 1966 University of Texas at Austin shootings.
