The Moorish Castle is a medieval fortification in Gibraltar featuring a complex of buildings, gates, and fortified walls dominated by the Tower of Homage and Gate House. Built by the Marinid dynasty, it stands unique among Iberian Peninsula alcazars for its North African origins. The Tower of Homage, with its striking construction and commanding strategic position, remains highly visible to visitors and defined the castle's character for centuries. The fortification also served as Gibraltar's prison until 2010, when that function was relocated.
