At 1585 Broadway in Manhattan's Theater District, the 42-story Morgan Stanley Building rises 209 meters on the west side of Broadway between 47th and 48th Streets. Designed by Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects and Emery Roth & Sons and completed in 1990, the structure features a distinctive low base with setbacks that lead into a glass and aluminum-clad tower topped by a glass gable roof. The façade incorporates large signage at street level, where retail spaces line the entire Broadway frontage; office and public entrances occupy 47th and 48th Streets and connect through a wide lobby. Morgan Stanley, which acquired the building in 1993 after it had entered foreclosure, established its headquarters there in 1995, eventually expanding to occupy the upper floors including an executive suite on the 40th and 41st stories. The building's interior was designed by Gwathmey Siegel and Gensler.
