At 575 feet and 38 stories, this Midtown Manhattan skyscraper designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and completed in 2001 originally served as Morgan Stanley's headquarters before being purchased by Lehman Brothers, whose 2008 collapse marked a pivotal moment in financial history. Now occupied by Barclays' investment banking division, the steel, granite, and glass structure occupies the western end of the block bounded by Seventh and Sixth Avenues and 49th and 50th Streets. Its facade is distinguished by 15,000 square feet of screen displays spanning the third through fifth stories, and it is topped with a glass parapet. The building's one million square feet of floor space connects directly to the 49th Street subway station and Rockefeller Center's underground mall through subterranean passageways, while a public plaza fronts its eastern side.
