The Muhammad Cheng Hoo Mosque, completed in 2006 in Jakabaring, Palembang, South Sumatra, is a dedicated place of worship for Muslim Chinese people, named in honor of the renowned Muslim Chinese admiral Zheng He. Founded through the collective initiative of the Chinese Islamic Association of Indonesia and local community leaders, the mosque blends architectural elements from China, the Malay world, and the Indonesian archipelago. Construction began in 2003 with the laying of foundation stones and concluded with inauguration three years later, funded by community contributions of approximately 150 million rupiah on land granted by local government. Beyond its role as a mosque, the building serves as a center for Islamic education. The structure, which includes an imam's residence and surrounding fences, stands as a testament to cultural diversity and the coexistence of Chinese and Islamic identities within Indonesian society.
