The Museum of Modern Art in Caracas was an unrealized art museum designed by Oscar Niemeyer between 1954 and 1955 for a cliff site in the Colinas de Bello Monte neighborhood overlooking central Caracas. The audacious design featured an inverted pyramid form with completely opaque walls—deliberately severing visual connection between the interior and surrounding landscape. Illumination would have relied entirely on a glass ceiling admitting natural light from above, a striking departure from conventional museum transparency. The ambitious project never progressed beyond the design stage.
