The Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro is a science museum designed by Spanish neofuturistic architect Santiago Calatrava and completed in 2015. Built on the Pier Mauá waterfront, the high-tech structure rises 20.85 meters and employs glass, steel, and wood in its striking composition. Constructed with support from the Roberto Marinho Foundation at a cost of approximately 230 million reais, the museum opened on 17 December 2015 with President Dilma Rousseff in attendance. The building was conceived as a cultural landmark and icon of the port area's reurbanization, intended to strengthen Rio de Janeiro's cultural and international standing.
