Located in Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences, the Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe is a striking science museum designed by Santiago Calatrava and completed in 2000. Spanning over 40,000 square metres and rising 55 metres high, the building's most distinctive feature is its whale-skeleton façade, an architectural signature that has become iconic to the complex. Constructed by a joint venture of Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas and Necso following a building process that began around 1994, the museum was symbolically inaugurated in March 2000 by Felipe, Prince of Asturias (later King Felipe VI), before opening to the public on 13 November 2000. Built at an investment of 26 billion pesetas, the museum houses interactive exhibitions and temporary collections devoted to science and technology. Its striking cantilever design has attracted international attention, featuring in scenes from the 2015 film Tomorrowland.
