Designed by Santiago Calatrava and completed in 2005, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía is an opera house and performing arts centre that anchors the northwest end of Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences. The building opened to the public on 8 October 2005, with its inaugural opera production—Beethoven's Fidelio—staged the following year. Since its founding, the Palau has maintained a close association with tenor and conductor Plácido Domingo, who established a young singers training program there.
