The Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona's Sant Pere neighbourhood is a concert hall designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner in the Catalan modernista style. Built between 1905 and 1908, it was commissioned by Orfeó Català, a choral society founded in 1891 that played a central role in the Catalan cultural renewal known as the Renaixença. Financed primarily by the society itself and supplemented by contributions from Barcelona's industrialists and bourgeoisie, the palace was inaugurated on 9 February 1908 and earned Domènech i Montaner an award from the Barcelona City Council the following year. The building underwent extensive restoration, remodeling, and extension between 1982 and 1989 under architects Oscar Tusquets and Carles Díaz. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 alongside Hospital de Sant Pau, the Palau now hosts more than half a million annual visitors attending performances ranging from symphonic and chamber music to jazz and traditional Cançó.
