The Musikverein, a neoclassical concert hall in Vienna's Innere Stadt district, was designed by Danish-born architect Theophil Hansen and opened in 1870. Built on land granted to the Society of Friends of Music by Emperor Franz Joseph I during the construction of the Vienna Ring Road, the building has been home to the Vienna Philharmonic since its inauguration. The concert hall's Great Hall (Großer Saal) is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, earning recognition alongside such celebrated venues as Berlin's Konzerthaus, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and Boston's Symphony Hall.
