Completed in 2009, the National Stadium in Kaohsiung's Zuoying District is Taiwan's largest stadium by capacity, holding 55,000 spectators. Designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, the structure features a distinctive semi-spiral form evocative of a dragon. Most notably, it was the world's first stadium to employ solar power technology at such scale, with 1 MW of solar cells integrated into its external panels to generate the majority of its operational electricity and feed surplus power back to the grid. Originally built to host the 2009 World Games, the stadium now primarily serves football matches, including FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
