Demolished or destroyed.
The New Deauville Hotel was a celebrated beachfront resort on Miami Beach designed by architect Melvin Grossman and completed in 1957 in the Miami Modern style. Located at 6701 Collins Avenue, the 17-story tower gained historic significance when The Beatles performed their second Ed Sullivan Show appearance there on February 16, 1964, in the hotel's Napoleon Ballroom. Following an electrical fire that closed the property in 2017, the building deteriorated amid public controversy over its owner's maintenance practices. The main tower was imploded on November 13, 2022, though the Napoleon Ballroom remained briefly standing. Preservationists unsuccessfully opposed the demolition, and plans by Stephen M. Ross to develop the site with new hotel and condominium towers were rejected by voters concerned about height code violations.
