The New Mosque, located in Istanbul's Eminönü quarter on the Golden Horn at the southern end of the Galata Bridge, is an Ottoman imperial mosque begun in 1597 by architect Mimar Davud Ağa and completed between 1660 and 1665. Originally named the Valide Sultan Mosque and later the New Valide Sultan Mosque following its partial reconstruction, the building exemplifies the Sultanate of Women period in Ottoman history. Constructed of dimension stone in the Ottoman architectural style, it stands as a prominent landmark marking the threshold between Istanbul's historic core and the Beyoğlu district, serving as part of a larger külliye complex.
