Located on Lake Avenue in Aspen, Colorado, the Newberry House is a wooden structure built around 1890 in the Shingle Style. Distinctive for its integrated carriage house—the only such design among Aspen residences—the home gained prominence when Judge William Shaw, a water law attorney, moved in after his 1921 appointment to the bench. Shaw occupied the house for nearly fifty years, witnessing Aspen's transformation from a struggling mining town into a luxury ski destination. The property later became one of several Aspen holdings owned by actor Jack Nicholson before his 2013 sale. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, the house has survived with minimal alterations.
