Newton Centre Methodist Episcopal Church, built in 1880 in Newton, Massachusetts, exemplifies the Richardsonian Romanesque style that emerged in late nineteenth-century American ecclesiastical architecture. Designed by the firm Andrews, Jaques & Rantoul, the building displays the characteristic heavy masonry, rounded arches, and robust forms associated with this distinctive architectural movement, which drew inspiration from medieval Romanesque precedents filtered through the innovations of architect H.H. Richardson.
