The Old Pinecrest Hotel, a Mission Revival structure in Avon Park, Florida, once stood on the shores of Lake Lotela as a landmark of evolving institutional purpose. Originally serving as a country club and later as The Highlands School, a girls' boarding school, the building was purchased in 1994 by the Transcendental Meditation movement and repurposed as the Maharishi School of Vedic Science. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 24, 2000, the hotel was documented in 1989 in the University of Florida Press's *Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture* as the "Pinecrest Hotel—Florida Capital of the Age of Enlightenment." By March 2007, the structure had been demolished, leaving only palm trees on the site.
