One Raffles Place is a mixed-use skyscraper complex in Downtown Core, Singapore, designed by Kenzō Tange and completed in 1986. The development comprises two office towers and a retail podium; Tower One rises 280 metres, making it at the time of completion the tallest building in the world outside the United States. Originally conceived in the late 1970s as the Overseas Union Bank Centre, the headquarters of Overseas Union Bank, construction began in 1981 with the superstructure commencing in October 1984. The S$486 million project opened in two phases in June and December 1986, achieving 90% office occupancy upon opening. Following UOB's acquisition of OUB in 2001, the complex was sold to Lippo Group in 2005. A second office tower was subsequently added to the site, opening in September 2012 and prompting the complex's rebranding as One Raffles Place; the refurbished podium reopened in May 2014.
