Located in Chandigarh's Capitol Complex, the Open Hand Monument is Le Corbusier's monumental interpretation of his recurring sculptural motif, completed in 1964. Standing 26 metres high, this towering metal structure—the largest of Le Corbusier's Open Hand works—features a 14-metre-high vaned form weighing 50 short tons, engineered to rotate with the wind. Conceived as the emblem of the Government of Chandigarh, the sculpture embodies the architect's symbolic language of duality and unity: "the hand to give and the hand to take," representing peace, prosperity, and the unity of mankind.
