Designed by modernist architect Marcel Breuer and completed in 1963, the Our Lady of the Annunciation Chapel at Annunciation Priory in Bismarck, North Dakota, exemplifies Brutalist architecture on the Great Plains. Breuer himself called the structure his "jewel on the prairie." The chapel, which serves the University of Mary, seats 500 worshippers and features a substantial pipe organ containing 1,641 pipes. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020, it stands as a notable example of mid-century religious modernism in the American heartland.
