Park Güell is a complex of parks and gardens in Barcelona's La Salut neighborhood, perched on the southern slope of Turó del Carmel hill with views across the city. Commissioned by Catalan industrialist Eusebi Güell and designed by Antoni Gaudí, a leading figure of Catalan modernism, the park was constructed between 1900 and 1914 and opened publicly in 1926. Gaudí's design synthesizes elements from the Arts and Crafts movement, Symbolism, Expressionism, and Rationalism, employing distinctive materials including trencadís—broken ceramic tile work—and other ceramics throughout its architectural elements and sculptures. In 1984, UNESCO designated the park a World Heritage Site as part of the "Works of Antoni Gaudí" collection, recognizing its influence on twentieth-century modernism and its status as a Cultural Asset of National Interest in Spain.
