The Pennington County Courthouse, built in 1922 at 315 St. Joseph Street in Rapid City, South Dakota, serves as the county seat of government and exemplifies the Beaux-Arts style. Designed by the Hutchinson, Kansas firm W. E. Hulse & Company, the three-story structure is clad in Indiana limestone with terra cotta trim. The prominent front façade features a two-story entrance framed by four pairs of Ionic columns, creating three main sections beneath three large arched windows with muntin and keystones. The entrance portal itself displays iron-grilled windows and transom topped by a cartouche, while a decorative frieze with ornamental medallions and dentillated cornice crowns the elevation above the second story. The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
