The Plassenburg is a castle in the city of Kulmbach in Bavaria, Germany, and a symbol of the city. First mentioned in 1135, it was the seat of the Plassenberg ministerials and later the fortress and residence of the Hohenzollerns in Franconia. Destroyed in 1554, it was rebuilt by the architect Caspar Vischer as a stronghold and palace. Today it is a museum and venue for cultural events, holding a significant collection of Prussian military artifacts and portraits.
