The Plaza Hotel is a luxury hotel and residential building designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh and constructed from 1905 to 1907 on the western side of Grand Army Plaza in Midtown Manhattan, at the southeastern corner of Central Park. The 18-story structure exemplifies French Renaissance-inspired château style, with a marble base, white-brick upper stories, and a distinctive mansard roof rising 76 meters. Hardenbergh's design features a marble and brick facade that crowns the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park South. The building's ground floor houses two primary lobbies and a sequence of grand restaurant and bar spaces—the Oak Room, Oak Bar, Edwardian Room, Palm Court, and Terrace Room—while upper stories contain a ballroom, hotel rooms, and residential condominiums. Originally containing over 800 rooms, the building underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2008, after which it accommodated 282 hotel rooms and 181 condominiums. The Plaza has been recognized as a New York City Landmark and listed on both the National Register and New York State Register of Historic Places. Since 2018 it has been owned by Katara Hospitality and managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.
