The Hotel Pennsylvania was a 22-story hotel designed by the prominent architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, located at 401 Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan across from Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden. Opened in 1919, it was once the world's largest hotel and remained New York City's fourth-largest until its permanent closure in 2020. The building featured a limestone façade on its first four stories and buff-colored and gray brick above, with its 2,200 guest rooms beginning at the fifth floor. The public spaces, concentrated on the lower levels, included a ground-floor lobby, the Cafe Rouge restaurant, and a ballroom. After decades of ownership changes and multiple name iterations—including the Hotel Statler, Statler Hilton, and New York Penta—the structure was demolished in 2023 to make way for a 50-story replacement tower.
