Located in rural Marlinton, West Virginia, the Pocahontas County Opera House is a Neoclassical structure built in phases beginning in 1907, when court reporter J.G. Tilton of Mount Vernon, Ohio constructed the original building, followed by an addition in 1910. Originally designed as a performance venue, the building has served multiple purposes over its history, including stints as a newspaper office, roller rink, and car dealership. Today it functions as both a theater for local and traveling performers and a community center, hosting everything from suppers and square dances to weddings and music jams. The Pocahontas County Opera House Foundation, a nonprofit organization, oversees the venue's programming and operations.
