Presbyterian Homes & Family Services, a historic orphanage complex in Lynchburg, Virginia, comprises a "cottage style" campus of Georgian Revival brick buildings constructed in 1911, including six residence halls, a superintendent's house, and an executive building, along with a Greek Revival gymnasium. The property also encompasses contributing structures such as a maintenance building, swimming pool, two farmhouses, dairy barn, stable, barn, and entry gates arranged around a campus circle. The institution's history includes a devastating fire on October 26, 1909, in which five children perished when Shelton Cottage, a two-story residence, burned completely. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010, the complex stands as a significant example of early twentieth-century institutional architecture in Virginia.
