The West Virginia Colored Children's Home, located near Huntington in Cabell County, was the state's first social institution exclusively serving African American residents. Built between 1922 and 1923, the main structure was a three-story red brick building in the Classical Revival style, situated at 3353 U.S. Route 60. Originally constructed to function as a school, orphanage, and sanatorium, the facility was also known by several alternative names reflecting its evolving purposes, including the West Virginia Colored Orphans Home and the West Virginia Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Men and Women. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 but was demolished in 2011.
