The Lincoln Colored Home in Springfield, Illinois, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and constructed in 1904, was one of the first orphanages for African American children in the United States. Opening on March 8, 1898, at its original location on South 12th Street, the institution served the community until 1933. The current building, erected after the original structure was demolished, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. Though now standing vacant and in disrepair, recent owners have undertaken restoration efforts to preserve this historically significant structure.
