The Prince's Bay Light, officially known as the John Cardinal O'Connor Light, stands on the highest point of Staten Island's southern shoreline in the Pleasant Plains neighborhood, overlooking Raritan Bay from an 85-foot bluff. Built in 1864, this active lighthouse is accompanied by an attached brownstone cottage that formerly housed the lighthouse keeper. The site occupies part of the southern terminal moraine, a geological formation shaped by the Wisconsin Glacier's recession some 10,000 years ago.
