Spanning the Canal de Alfonso XIII in Seville, the Alamillo Bridge is a striking cantilever-spar cable-stayed structure designed by Santiago Calatrava and completed in 1992. Built to provide access to La Cartuja, a peninsula situated between the canal and the Guadalquivir River, the bridge was constructed as part of infrastructure improvements for Expo 92. Rising 142 meters, Calatrava's design creates a distinctive silhouette characteristic of his sculptural approach to contemporary engineering, seamlessly integrating function with dramatic form.
