Reed Memorial Library stands at the junction of US 6 and NY 52 in Carmel, New York, the oldest library building in Putnam County. Built in 1914 by Arietta Crane Reed as a memorial to her late husband William Belden Reed—a devoted supporter of the Literary Union of Carmel, which continues to operate the library—the structure exemplifies Tudor Revival architecture. Constructed of local stone with marble accents, the Tudorbethan-style building retains much of its original period furnishing. The library was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
