Sumner Library is a Tudor Revival public library in the Near North neighborhood of Minneapolis, established in 1915 as the second of four Carnegie libraries in the city and named after U.S. Senator Charles Sumner. In its early decades, the library became a crucial cultural anchor for Jewish immigrants, whose presence was so dominant that the Minneapolis Public Library relocated its entire Yiddish and Hebrew collections there. Over time, Sumner adapted to serve successive waves of arrivals—Scandinavian, Russian, Black American, Southeast Asian, and East African residents—offering English instruction and social programming alongside its circulating collections. The building itself, distinguished by its Tudor Revival architecture, earned listing on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2008, the library was incorporated into the Hennepin County Library system.
