Built in 1921 in Deer Lodge, Montana, the Rialto Theatre is a Beaux-Arts movie house originally seating 720 patrons. The ornate interior featured extensive painted murals, artistic plaster designs, and painted stage backdrops, while its distinctive exterior was clad in white terra cotta with red roof tiles. After a devastating fire gutted the building on November 4, 2006, a local non-profit community organization—which had purchased the theater in 1995—undertook an ambitious reconstruction focused on historical accuracy. The rebuild, completed in May 2012 with volunteer support and general contractor Martel Construction at a final cost of approximately $3.4 million, restored the theater as a contributing building within the Deer Lodge Central Business Historic District.
