Saint Hakob of Akori was an Armenian monastery in southeastern Surmalu, now Iğdır Province, Turkey, situated 4.7 kilometers southwest of the village of Akori on Mount Ararat's northeastern slope. Built in the Armenian architectural tradition, the monastery served as a base camp in 1829 for the first recorded ascent of Mount Ararat, undertaken by Baltic German explorer Friedrich Parrot and Armenian writer Khachatur Abovian alongside four companions. The monastery was destroyed in 1840 by an earthquake and lahar; the nearby village of Akori was subsequently rebuilt and is known today as the small Kurdish settlement of Yenidoğan.
