Saint John's Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Collegeville Township, Minnesota, established in 1856 following the arrival of monks from Saint Vincent Archabbey in Pennsylvania. One of the largest Benedictine abbeys in the Western Hemisphere, it houses 110 professed monks and is affiliated with the American-Cassinese Congregation. A school founded at the abbey evolved into Saint John's University in 1883. The abbey's architectural heritage is substantial: seventeen buildings constructed between 1868 and 1959 are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the St. John's Abbey and University Historic District, representing Victorian-era design and later modernist work by architect Marcel Breuer.
