St. John's Baptist Church, located in Miami, Florida, is a historic Moderne-style structure designed by the architectural firm McKissack & McKissack. The church was completed in 1940 on its current site at 13th Street and 3rd Avenue, following the congregation's outgrowth of an earlier frame building constructed in 1908. The congregation's origins trace to June 17, 1906, when a small group gathered for worship at the corner of NW 2nd Avenue and 11th Terrace, initially calling themselves Second Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Rev. Jarius Wilkerson Drake, who assumed pastorship in February 1912, the membership expanded significantly, prompting the purchase of a larger site and the construction of the present building. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1992.
