The Baptistery of St. John the Baptist in Thessaloniki is considered the oldest surviving early-Christian baptistery, situated within a five-aisled episcopal basilica completed in the fifth century during the Byzantine era. Located within the Galerian Palace complex, the baptistery consists of a room with platforms and a baptismal font, and was in direct contact with the royal quarters via a hallway featuring a mosaic floor. The structure was identified during excavations of the nearby Byzantine church of Hagia Sophia.
