Located in Chūō-ku, Saitama, the Saitama Super Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena that opened officially on September 1, 2000, following a preliminary opening in May of that year. Designed by Dan Meis of Ellerbe Becket in collaboration with Nikken Sekkei after winning an international design competition, the facility showcases a distinctive movable seating section that adjusts capacity between 19,000 and 22,500 for the main arena, with a maximum total capacity of 36,500. This innovative feature allows the space to adapt to different event scales and create more intimate settings. The arena has become a primary venue for Japanese professional wrestling and mixed martial arts, while also hosting boxing, basketball, volleyball, tennis, ice hockey, gymnastics, and American football—making it Japan's only arena specially equipped for the latter sport. The facility previously housed the John Lennon Museum, which occupied the space until its closure in 2010.
