Schallaburg Castle, located in the village of Schallaburg within the municipality of Schollach in Lower Austria's Mostviertel region, is a Renaissance stronghold situated five kilometers from Melk near the Wachau valley. The castle's central section was constructed beginning around 1540 by the Losenstein dynasty during the German Renaissance period. Blending Romanesque and Renaissance architectural styles, Schallaburg functions today as both a museum and chapel, and is recognized as a listed heritage site in Austria.
