Rochsburg Castle stands on a rock spur in Lunzenau, Saxony, surrounded on three sides by the Zwickau Mulde river. Probably built in the late twelfth century, the castle retains its medieval structure of inner bailey, outer bailey, and two zwingers, yet its present appearance reflects major transformation during the Late Gothic and Renaissance periods, with principal construction phases occurring in 1470 and 1548. An important example of Renaissance architecture in Saxony, Rochsburg has served as the centerpiece of the Saxon district of Rochsburg for centuries.
